The Dispositor — the Chart's Center of Power

Follow the chain of rulership and you find the chart's real conductor.

The last key to the intermediate level is the dispositor. A planet gets 'ruled' by the ruling planet of the sign it's in. Follow that ruler again, and follow that ruler's ruler again, and you get a chain of rulership. Follow this and you can see the chart's center of power.

For example, it chains like this. If Venus is in Scorpio, Scorpio's ruler is Mars → if that Mars is in Sagittarius, Sagittarius's ruler is Jupiter → ... you keep following it like this.

Planet → the ruler of that sign → that ruler's ruler... follow the chain of rulership.

Where does this chain stop? It stops at a planet in its own sign (domicile). Being in its own home, it isn't ruled by anyone else and rules itself. This planet is called the final dispositor. Since the flow of several planets ends up gathering here, it's an especially powerful planet in the chart.

If there isn't a single planet in its own sign, the chain can instead circle between two planets ruling each other (mutual reception). Either way, following the dispositor reveals "who's the real conductor of this chart". Looked at together with the chart ruler you learned earlier, the chart's center becomes even clearer.
