Bhava Lords — Ruler of Each Room

Remember earlier when we said every house has a ruler? That ruler is called the Bhava Lord (Bhavesha). Whatever Rashi a house sits in, its ruling planet is exactly that house's ruler. This idea is the real key to Vedic interpretation.

Why is it the key? Because even an empty house still has its business running. Just because career's house (House 10) has no planets in it at all doesn't mean "you have no luck with your career." Look at what House 10's Rashi is, and what house its ruling planet sits in and what condition it's in, and the grain of your career comes through clearly. If House 10's ruler sits in House 5 (creativity), for example, your career tends to unfold through creativity and self-expression.

So when reading a house, Vedic astrology always looks at two things together — ① the planets sitting in that house and ② where that house's ruler is and what it's doing. Once this habit of 'following the ruler' sticks, the twelve houses start to look like one network connected to each other.
