The Twelve Life Stages — an Energy's Life Cycle

The twelve life stages a Heavenly Stem passes through on an Earthly Branch, read as a supporting signal.

sibi-unseong (十二運星, twelve life stages) is a tool for seeing which life stage's strength it carries for each stem in each branch. It's likened to a person's life cycle — being born (Birth), growing up (Coming of Age, Prosperity), reaching a peak (Peak), declining (Decline, Illness), passing away (Death, Tomb, Severance), and being conceived again (Conception, Nurture).

The energy's life-cycle curve — rising from Birth to Peak, bottoming out at Severance, then turning around again.

The same day master carries different strength depending on which branch it sits on. Sitting on a Prosperity or Peak spot means the energy is in full swing, so its own force runs strong; sitting on a Death, Tomb, or Severance spot means the force has quieted down. This is how you gauge which stage of strength the energy is in right now.

Just remember one thing. The twelve life stages isn't a chart that decides your fate. Fearing it like "there's a Death or Tomb stage, so it's bad" is a misunderstanding. The names sound dramatic, but they're only a supporting gauge for reading the energy's strength. A Decline, Illness, or Death spot is sometimes even read as quietly ripening inward kind of energy. So take this chapter as an intermediate-level optional tool, and use it lightly as a reference.
