Season and Day Master Strength — the Scale of Power

This is the real threshold of BaZi reading. BaZi is not a game of counting up the Five Elements — it's about seeing how much power each energy gains within the season you were born in. And that balance of power is what tells apart a strong or weak Day Master (身强/身弱). Understanding this is what makes the next chapter, the favorable element, click as "why this energy of all things."

The most important thing is the season's command (月令) — that is, the season you were born in. Even the same Wood (木) is bursting with life in spring and has its energy broken in autumn. Wood gets strong meeting its season in spring, Fire in summer, Metal in autumn, Water in winter. That's why a single character in the month branch is often stronger than everything else combined.

Whether the Day Master (you) is strong or weak is usually read through four things together.
· gaining the season (得令) — Does the season you were born in (month branch) support you? (Most important)
· gaining the ground (得地) — Does the seat you sit on (day branch) back you up?
· gaining the crowd (得勢) — Are most of the remaining characters on your side (Friend/Rob Wealth and Resource groups)?
· rooting (通根) — Does your stem have roots in the branches?

Put these forces on a scale. Heavier on the side that supports you (Friend/Rob Wealth and Resource groups) and you get Strong Day Master; heavier on the side that drains or presses you (Output, Wealth, and Officer groups) and you get Weak Day Master; and if neither leans hard, you get Balanced.

Keep this in mind — A strong Day Master isn't "good" and a weak one isn't "bad" — never read it that way. A strong Day Master's strength is drive, pushing through on its own power; a weak Day Master's strength is flexibility, blending in and borrowing strength from others. But when it leans to an extreme to one side (an extremely strong or extremely weak chart), it's sometimes read instead as a special structure called a Follower Structure (從格), one that rides its strong current rather than being forced into balance. This strong/weak verdict is exactly where finding the favorable element starts.
